Archive Page
-
I’m not trying to do anything fancy. I just want my archive organized by month so that it is easy for someone to pick out a Christmas post in December for example instead of trying to find it amongst a giant list of links. I’ve tried looking this up on my own but everything I’m finding is just way more than what I’m trying to achieve. Thank you in advance for your help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
The simplest is to set up a custom widget and choose the option “Display as a dropdown”, which sorts it by month in reverse chronological order.

With my theme I think it is only possible to add a widget to the sidebar… I want an entire page devoted to it.

Ah, ok. You can do that with a shortcode with some customization. Instead of manually typing in the links on your archive page, you can let WordPress do it for you. There are some options you can use with the shortcode to tell it out to format it (e.g., monthly, weekly, daily, etc.).

For example, if you want to show archive links in weekly format, you edit your Archive page and on a new line you type:
[archive type=weekly]And it will show weekly links starting with the most recent.

This is close to what I was wanting. Within the shortcode is there an ability to show posts between certain dates? I assume since it’s not in the article that it’s not possible but just to be sure.
Also, this is what I had in my head as to what I wanted.
January
– article title
– article title
December
– article title…etc
Thanks so much for your help… really appreciate it.
