Archives not displaying in sidebar after "customizing"
-
Hi supportive people,
Several people use and post on the blog, and one of our users decided to change the theme one day, to “Sidespied.”
When I logged-in, I discovered that neither the “Blogroll” widget nor the “Archives” widget were displayed.
When I tried to “customize” over what he had done, despite at least a half-dozen attempts to re-add the “Archive” widget, despite filling in all the info. on the “Visibility” button, the theme stubornly refused to display either Blogroll, or Archives.
So, I switched thems, to “Penscratch 2”
The exact same problem persists, although I do have a nice list of pages at the top of screen now.
What am I missing?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is a fleeting message which lasts about 5 seconds when I click on “Widgets” in the “Customize” menu:
“This theme has 1 widget area, but this particular page doesn’t display it.”
“You can navigate to other pages on your site while using the customizer to view and edit the widgets displayed on these pages.”
I never had this problem while using P2, or “Blogum” themes in the past. But now, neither P2, nor Penscratch2, nor Sidespied themes will allow me to make Archives and Blogroll visible any longer.
I’m afraid my collaborator has screwed the blog up permanently.

Hi there!
I suggest trying to edit your widgets in the WP-Admin Dashboard. You can find yours here: https://greenpeoples.media/wp-admin/widgets.php
On the right side, you’ll see areas where widgets are enabled; on the left, all the widgets available to you. Simply drag the widgets you’d like to use from the left to the right. You’ll also be able to edit widget visibility there.
See if you can customize to your liking on that page, and if not, do report back!
Additionally, I’d recommend perhaps ‘demoting’ the collaborator in question to Editor or similar. Read more about User Roles here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/
This will prevent them from making changes to site settings, themes, etc., but will still allow them to contribute to your site.
Hope this helps!

here’s what I see in the wp-admin.widget.php page–
as you can see, there’s no place to drag the Archives widget, nor the Links widget, to. There is only white space on the right side of that page, where I would want the widgets to appear. And the drag-drop action does nothing.

here is what the “Manage with Live Preview option shows–
again, there is no way to drag-drop those “Customizing-Sidebar” widgets. The action does nothing.
There must be another way.
Thanks,

It looks like your theme only supports the one widget area, Sidebar. Even then, I don’t actually see a sidebar on your site. Check each widget’s visibility to be sure it’s appearing where you want it to. If you want it to appear everywhere on your site, simply click the red X in the visibility menu.
If the drag & drop functionality is not working for you, just click the widget you want in the Available Widgets section – a menu will appear where you can select a widget area (in this case, only Sidebar will be available).
See https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/ for more information on widgets, widget visibility, etc. 🙂

OK, after several hours (literally) of going back and forth trying to use the “Customize” menu,
I finally recognized that in the wp-admin menu, there is a simple link called
“Appearance” which has widgets underneath it, and I was able to quickly enable both the sidebar widgets I wanted.
Thanks for taking the time with me, much appreciated !
