Archives Questions

    1. I want to display this in a post: [archives]. When I preview what I have typed, unfortunately, I see the archives list, not [archives]. How can I display that shortcode in a sentence, such as the preceding one, without having it expand to display the list of posts in the blog? I’ve tried using backticks, but I must be doing it wrong.

    2. I know there is an Archives widget. But is there a way to display the contents of that widget in the text of a post? I see, for example, that the archives shortcode allows an option that will display all posts in a drop-down list, organized by month, as the widget does. But I don’t see an option to display all posts, broken out by month, in a simple list, as the widget allows.

    3. I would like to develop, not merely a list of posts, but an *annotated* list. Ideally, this would draw upon something else that (to my knowledge) does not yet exist, namely, an option in which a user can substitute a manually or automatically generated summary or abstract of a post, in place of the brief introductory excerpts that appear (in at least some themes) when I choose a month from the Archives widget drop-down list. In other words, I would like to create, preserve, and draw upon a customized summary of each post. When I say “preserve,” I mean that I don’t want to have to manually add all my annotations back to the list of posts copied and pasted from an [archives] page. So: any suggestions?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In question 2, I should have added that the widget allows the option of displaying the date of each post; if it can be done, I would like to see that in the list of posts displayed on my Archives page.
