Archives should have separate setting for # of blog pages shown
-
I recently realized that what you set under reading settings for “blog pages show at most __ posts” applies for both your blog AND the blog’s archives.
This is slightly inconvenient since, in the blog you only want a few posts showing at once (in full length), while in archives you want a lot of posts titles shown at once (with my format, at least, it only shows the title in the archives). So it defeats the purpose when both have to be set to the same number.
What I’m suggesting is that the setting can be split, one number for posts show on blog, one for posts shown in archives. It seems simple enough, but would make peoples lives much easier, I believe.
Thanks for taking the time to read .. sorry for the incoherency! ^__^”

Hm, I looked into that, but figured out that the number set in reading settings also applies for those archives (at least with my template). :(
Therefore, I think it would be a huge advantage if they’d make that option, to be able to separately set number of posts show for blog and archives. =/

You can post your idea in the idea section of the forums
and if you get enough people saying they would like that change
then staff might consider adding that option… =)

I did … I think. ^^”
NOW TO RALLY SUPPORT!
Although its kinda of a fine detail people might not notice … I’m just insanely nitpicky :D

Oops my mistake I didn’t check to see what section of the forum this was
posted in it’s been a very long day for me… =( -

It’s a good idea. I’d support it; if they can make image width theme-dependent then surely they can make archives customizable.

Gah, this is extremely frustrating. I don’t know about all themes, but for my these, under archives, it shows the title of each post. Its really short. And I want to see ALL/a lot of titles at once under archives. Instead, it shows 5. Only. That takes up like 3 inches of space. And if I want to see the rest I have to click the arrows to change pages. Its ridiculous.

I don’t know if this will be any help
I manually input my links into a page
called archives so i can control how
many show & what order they show….You’re welcome to check out my archive/
page to see what it looks like some links
are missing because I’m getting ready to
revamp the page so it will up date it’s
self after I link the words I want o the pageNow you can create a archives page
write the category names and link
to the word like this by using this link format
example.wordpress.com/category/category name goes here/
by doing this when some clicks the category name
they will see all posts under that categoryHere is the link to my archive page

Hm. I understand what your saying, but the number of posts shown at a time under those archives are also controlled by the same settings. GAH.
I’m not sure if that’s only for the theme I’m using (ChaoticSoul) or what . . . .
Also, I realize that manually adding the links is an option, but really, that just takes way too much time and effort when the entire thing can be (presumably) easily resolved. Sigh. Sorry for seeming so irritated, its been a long day . . .

I’d be in favor of this also. And I’d like to show full text on the current posts page and titles or summaries only on the archives as well. And I’d like to have separate numbers of posts showing on each for example 5 current posts but 10 or more archived posts.
-
@sunnydaymiasma: The limitation you noticed applies to all themes (since it is set in Settings>Reading). For themes that display full posts on Archive and Category pages it makes sense. Chaotic Soul (which I use, too) is one of the mere three themes that display titles instead of posts when you open an Archive or Category page (while other themes display the beginnings of posts). For these themes it would be quite reasonable to have a separate setting.

Feel free to send Support a quick note, so that we can add these kinds of things to our user suggestion library, which is reviewed on a regular basis.

I didn’t know you could do that… okay thanks, bubel!
And everyone else, thanks! I didn’t know that my theme was an exception with the posts/titles concerning archives O_O
