Archiving content

    Hey Everyone,

My question is about archiving. I am currently trying to move old content specific to a particular category (in this case travel) onto a page where there would be an image in a grid style for each post that users can click on and be taken to that post. I want to create some sort of archive, but I read you cannot install a plug in for archives for a basic wordpress site like my own. How can I go about moving old content specific to one theme onto one page? My blog is breakingmatis.wordpress.com

    Thanks for your help!

Hi there, your site can have an unlimited number of posts and all posts will continue to be displayed on the Posts page. If you want to display older posts on a separate archive page on your site, you have a couple of options:

Category Pages/Custom Menu: When you add categories to your existing blog posts, you can then display them on a separate tab in your navbar with a Custom Menu. This however will include all posts in that category, including new posts. You could create a new category specifically for those archive posts and then use the bulk edit feature in the WP Admin dashboard to add that new category to the relevant posts.

Display Posts Shortcode: You can display posts on a Page you create with the display-posts shortcode using the offset and category parameters. For example, you can set this shortcode to display posts prior to the first x number of posts in the x category.

Lastly, the Archives shortcode: This is probably the easiest to implement, but cannot be customized to the same level as the display-posts shortcode.

Each of these options displays differently, but none of them will give you a grid of images on a page by default. Sela, the theme you are using, does have a grid template, but it is limited to displaying child pages and not posts.

Try the above suggestions and let us know if you need more help with this.
