Archiving Entire Authors
-
I run a multi-user blog of students studying abroad. In several weeks the Spring 2010 Bloggers will return home and the summer study abroad students will head abroad to become the “new” bloggers.
Instead of deleting the spring bloggers completely, is there a way to have an entire archived webpage of the past bloggers? Ideally, I’d love to have the new summer authors be where the current bloggers are and a link to the past bloggers.
Any ideas? or would it be easier to create a new blog entirely?
Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Why not just use the Author Widget? It lists all the authors and with one click, anyone can see all their posts.

I already do use the Author widget (or at least I think I do). The problem is the amount of students I have blogging is getting excessive if I keep everyone up. Even if it is just their gravatar and name, it gets very cluttered and I’d rather have only the current students on the front page.

I don’t see a way to do exactly what you seem to want. I tried to look at your purdueabroad blog, but you seem to have deleted it.
I’d be inclined to start a new blog for each cohort, leaving the old blogs online.
If you want one blog that keeps growing as a new cohort comes in and posts, I’d consider using the Recent Posts widget rather than the authors widget. That would feature fresh (i.e. current cohort) content without becoming cluttered.
If you want a list of all the current students/authors, I would have a post for this, and ask the students to introduce themselves in comments. -
You could simply make a page which does what the author’s widget does: link to each author’s feed. You’d have to update it when you have new authors, though.
If you’re going to have author churn of this magnitude, why not mock up an author widget by using a text widget? Just put in avatars and links to each author’s feed yourself by hand. Then when one “retires” you can delete them from the widget.
