Archiving PAGES (not posts)
-
Hi – I am brand new to the blogosphere. On my blog, each post has its own page. I post once a week, and a new tab appears with the title of that post, right on top of my Home Page. Now I want to archive the 4 posts from September and start fresh with just the Home Page again, adding a page each week for October. I have spent 3 hours trying to find an answer on this, but to no avail. Can anyone out there help me? Many thanks in advance.

Is there a particular reason why you’ve set up your site this way? The function of the Posts page is to do exactly what you’ve done by posting on Pages. Archiving Posts (not Pages) is a snap!

Thank you for helping, Jennifer. I guess I set it up this way as I didn’t want a long page, but wanted the month’s entries very visible and accessible for exploring. I liked having those tabs right at the top of the page so people could easily see other pages to explore. I am guessing from your response that archiving pages isn’t possible, so I should restructure? May I assume that I can limit the number of posts on a page to 1, and the older post will then be rolled off to Archives? In archives will each post appear as its title? Any other restructuring suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. Newbies… Lord help us :-)

Yes, you can set your blog to only display one post. (dashboard > settings > reading )
I agree with jennifer here – having a separate page for each post just isn’t the way blogs work. And no, you cannot archive pages.

Anything older than the present post will just go to the next page. You can also set up an Archives widget in your blog’s sidebar to link to your Posts by month.
We understand the Newbie thing. Not to worry. The FAQs are a great resource, too.
