Archving posts, or removing them from the front page

Is there a way to specify that the current post and the previous post are the only ones displayed on the front page? I have the archive widget, but it archives past mnnths, and with posting nearly every day, even I find it tedious to get to the bottom of the front page to get to the archive link and my follow this blog widget. Or maybe this would be better done if I had a different theme? (I’m in Wu Wei right now).

    Thanks in advance!

You can set the number of posts to display on the front page of your blog here > Settings > Reading
Blog pages show at most __posts
    Click “save changes”

Hi again Judith and you’re welcome. :)

what happens to the posts once you’ve exceeded you set number on front page? I was hoping they would just go to the categories and “tabs” set up but nothing seems to actually go to those pages. How do you set that part up?

Start out with this. The software takes care of archiving automatically – you do nothing. This is what you have in your horizontal menu > Note that the ones in bold type below are all static pages rather than categories and you will need to delete them before proceeding. (Leave only Home and About).
    Home
    About Me
    Birds
    Bugs and Stuff
    Cats
    Critters

    1. You cannot post to Pages. Pages are static and sit outside the blog structure. http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ With WordPress, you use Categories to organize posts not pages into subjects and then you can add those Categories to your top navigation using a custom menu. You do not create pages and think categories are going to appear on them because they won’t.

    2. There is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (by default it is the front page) and we cannot post to more than that one page for posts, but we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.

We create Categories in our dashboards. Examples: Birds, Bugs and Stuff, Cats, Critters

We organize our posts by assigning Categories to them. When we publish a post it automatically appears on the running page for posts and also on the Categories pages and Archives pages. Note: There must be one published post in each Category in order for there to be anything to display.

    3. We create a custom menu which allows us to display Categories with drop-downs to sub-categories in tabs along the horizontal navigation where normally only Pages tabs are displayed.

We can also include Pages (like Home and About) with drop-downs to sub-pages. We can also include custom links in our custom menu as well. We are in charge of what appears in a custom menu. We choose the order in which to display any and/or all the foregoing in your custom menu. We choose which to display and which to hide.
