Are adwords conversion codes allowed in upgraded blog?
-
I’m thinking of moving to wordpress.com, but I would like to have the ability to use Google adwords. I see in the forums that this isn’t possible in the free version, but I would use an upgraded version. Being able to insert an adwords conversion code is crucial in order to determine if advertising is cost effective. I’m not running an e-commerce site, incidentally. I would want to know if people are signing up on email or downloading a pdf.

That’s unfortunate. I think there are many professionals who need a small website to serve local customers (e.g., psychologists), but don’t have the time or technical expertise to get hosting, install WP, keep up with plugins, etc. They also don’t need to rank high globally for some search term, they just need to be found by local people who need their services. Adwords is well-suited for this and would only require a short snippet of code to be placed on a contact page within their wordpress.com site. WordPress.com is missing out on a large potential market by ruling this out of bounds.

Just to clarify my previous post further: There would be no ads on the WordPress.com blog. Adwords ads appear in on search results screens in response to triggering keywords. The embedded conversion code would only tell the adwords system that some event had occurred as the result of an ad being clicked on the search results screen.

That is built into the Stats package here

That’s good to know, but the inclusion of the Adwords tracking code on the site enables a more direct connection between the appearance of a text ad on Google and the event at the blog. Such linkage allows one to know if the text ads are worth their cost.
All the text ad does is to direct, for the price of a click, a searcher to the website, where there is no advertising. Could I buy a billboard with the address of my blog on it? I’m guessing that would be acceptable, so I’m struggling to understand why the insertion of an adwords conversion code would not be.
