Are all wordpress blogs linear, in date format?

  I’d really like to have tabs across the top of my blog (below the main picture) with different sections, such as Recipes, About Me, etc. Is this possible?

  Yep, totally possible :)

  First, you might brush up on the differences between pages and posts:

  “About me” is almost always a page, but your “Recipes” can be whatever content type you like.

  You can choose to write posts, and categorize them as Recipes in the editor, for example.

  Then you can create a custom menu, and add the category to your menu bar, so that your visitors can browse those.
