Are custom fonts still valid if I move my blog to wordpress.org

    Hi,

I’m thinking of changing to a self hosted blog/site using wordpress.org, as I didn’t realise when I started the wordpress.com blog that plug-ins were available. However, I have a premium theme and the custom design upgrade. As far as I can see the theme isn’t transferable (I’m not sure why!). In regards to using the fonts that I have paid for at the moment – how does that work?

Forgive my ignorance, but do I still use the same account? (for payments, domains, etc.) If it still is the same account, do I have access to these fonts or do I need a plug-in to use them? Finally, I have a custom domain pointed at my blog – do these settings have to be changed if I move to wordpress.org?

Sorry for all the questions, but I just want to have an idea of what to expect if I change.

    Many thanks,

    Rod

    Hi there,

What you have heard is right, your WordPress.com upgrades cannot be transferred to WordPress.org. We are two different entities, and not all of the features that we make available through WordPress.com are available in WordPress.org. You can read more about the difference between the two at:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

The major change if you move to WordPress.org is that you would be setting up a self-hosted installation of WordPress on your own servers. Because of this, you would need to update your domain’s name servers to point to your site’s new home. You would also no longer need the WordPress.com Mapping Upgrade, since that upgrade is what allows your domain to be used with the WordPress.com site you’d be leaving.

You can read more about how to move your blog at:

Does that answer all your questions?

    Best!
