Are drafts public?

Hi. I’ve just noticed in the classic editor that unpublished drafts (of which I have many) say Visibility: Public next to the edit window. There’s no way a Draft is public, right? Wouldn’t make sense.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The “status” option in the publish module determines whether a post/page is published, pending, or in draft status. The visibility options are only applicable to published posts/pages.

OK, thanks. And so one would expect. It just isn’t clear to me why a draft is stated as being “Public”?

That’s what it says by default in the classic editor.

Understood. Yes, I see how that could be confusing. But the other visibility options are “private” and “password protected.” If neither of these apply then the post should be assigned to “public” visibility even if it isn’t published and therefore not presently publicly visible. The visibility designation “public” just means that the post will be visible publicly if and when the post is published.
