Are free WordPress themes supported by the open source WordPress software?

  Hi,
  should I decide to switch to self hosting WordPress, can I keep the free WordPress theme, or will I have to choose a different one?

  Almost 100% of the free themes on WordPress.com are available for download. You’ll find a “download for your self-hosted site” link in the right sidebar on each theme’s showcase page.
