Are ISPs blocking WordPress pages AGAIN?

  • Unknown's avatar

@jackiedana – Any update available please? (I’m a TalkTalk user in the UK, not using wi-fi, and this is the third time I’ve had the problem in the past 18 months).

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m also with Talk Talk and having the same problem. Is there any point phoning them about it?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’mm getting ‘page cannot display’ when trying to access dashboard after logging in on IE11. Chrome gets me through but then browser reports connection lost. Godd job am not blogging over weekend but simply adjusting draft, which I managed earlier today

    To answer rosestrang’s query:
Am with TalkTalk in UK and last time wasted 30mins with ‘service’ bod who was completely clueless when I told him the likely cause All he could do was stick to script.

There needs to be an answer to prevent this huge issue

I’m with talk talk, in Warwickshire, England. Frustrating not to be able to get on my blog for the last 2 days. Some people can comment, others are letting me know that they can’t comment. This is the address.

Hi – I am also with Talk Talk in the UK. Today (17/5/14) I have received messages saying I cannot access my own pages – page cannot display – especially if I try to switch. I am running 5 blogs under one heading – it will let me on each one but only intermittently. I have logged off and back on with same problem. However when I have successfully managed a post it will share with Facebook and Twitter. Frustrating!

I too am with TalkTalk in UK. I’ve just noticed it. Guess out 4 months are up. Count them; that’s when it recurs. As usual, I can get to the ‘my blogs’ page; and the reader. Good Luck with clearing it! You should have the required processes in place by now.

    @Jackiedana

Just a short update. After trouble-free access to my blog via my tablet (as reported May 16th) when encountering issues when using my PC / laptop over the same connection, I can today confirm that I’m now suffering connection resets on the Android device as well. They do not appear to be as frequent as with the PC, but they are occurring.

We are with Talktalk – we haven’t been able to access the dashboard to edit and update posts for the last couple of days. Our blog is http://rageoffstage.wordpress.com.

    Hello,

I keep getting this exact error every time I try to get onto my WordPress blog from anywhere on the Internet, including my Facebook Page and Google:

    The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

What is causing this? I recently added some new content to my blog, and clearly it still functions–and even though I added a SoundCloud function via a text widget and a new post, it was functioning fine for two days AFTER I did that, before it started this. Can someone please help me fix this? It’s never done this till now.

The blog I need help with is ankhprophecy.wordpress.com.

Can anybody help get this resolved? This is rather ridiculous, although I understand what’s causing this issue.

Is anybody working on this issue or have a solution to it?

Have you flown up the nose of your iSP who your pay for service they are blocking and buzzed around in their empty headspace yet? I live in Canada and I have ISP choices. I would be up the nose of any ISP who affected this bizarre behavior and would move my account to another ISP so fast heads would spin.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well there goes my blog access for God knows how long…

  • Unknown's avatar

I would create lots of drafts offline so they are ready to go when this issue is sorted. I have a 12 point contingency plan for working offline http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2008/06/24/a-ten-point-contingency-plan-for-working-off-line/

I’m on Virgin, not Talk Talk and I can’t access anything, my blog or my dashboard.

Yes, I’m in the UK and it seems like the same old problem again. It is enormously frustrating but I’ve found the work around is to tether and use my mobile to connect instead. That said a real resolution to this reoccurring issue is needed and then I can get back to using my ISP which, by the way, is the Post Office and not Talk Talk.

I’m in the UK, on Talktalk and have suffered from the issue before. Currently, I can still get into my dashboard but if I access my blog it treats me as though I’m not logged in and shows the follow button. With a number of other people’s wordpress blogs I just get a blank page when I try to access them. Very weird!

  • Unknown's avatar

As this is getting to be a regular thing, would it make any difference to upgrade to a full website or will the same thing happen?

    @timethief

“I live in Canada and I have ISP choices. I would be up the nose of any ISP who affected this bizarre behavior and would move my account to another ISP so fast heads would spin.”

Well, good for you. We have choice in the UK as well. However, we also have something called the “minimum term contract”, which locks people into an ISP for a set term (the preferred choice of many providers seeming to be 18 months nowadays), with financial penalties applied for early termination. Ergo, moving elsewhere isn’t necessarily the easiest of things to do.

Further, while the article you indicate points at it being TalkTalk’s issue, it misses out on the fact that we’ve established in these very forums that users of other UK ISPs have also been affected (e.g. Sky, another major UK ISP has in the past been mentioned). Therefore, even if shunting one’s custom elsewhere were possible, there is no guarantee it would definitely resolve the issue.

If the problem is still a matter of block lists, then the solution would still seem to be three-fold:

    – WP need to understand from IWF why any WP.com blogs are even ending-up on on any block list (e.g. what’s the mechanism by which sites are flagged, and how WP-hosted sites are raising said flags, given WP’s own ToS) and then determine how to work with IWF to prevent these things happening in the future.

    – IWF need to look at their mechanisms for adding sites / hosts a little more closely, and how updates are passed to ISPs, including their guidelines for updating past lists.

    – Yes, ISPs need a kick in order to make sure they aren’t buggering things up in accepting and handling anything coming from IWF.

Simply telling people to rattle the cage and move, however, isn’t entirely helpful advice.

My blog works if I connect via a VPN, but not if I use my direct link on TalkTalk.
Who should we be complaining to at Talk Talk? Anyone know?
