Are ISPs blocking WordPress pages AGAIN?

    Martin/Rex – as am on hols am dipping in only as and when able, but you will have seen my comments on Open Rights thread. Issue needs tackling at CEO level.

    If I recall correctly, cabbi Barry Turnbull named therein reported his business site was freed up only after he took issue direct to TT’s CEO Charles Dunstone. Blocking may have adversely affected his business for he vowed to move off WP and TT; which may explain why I can’t spot remarks on July ’13 thread (unless it was on Nov’13 thread).

    ‘Kid’s Safe’ – just to clarify: have never had it enabled but toyed with idea of using it to circumvent IWF blocking, but never had time to investigate or try. When TT engineers were available online I got some sense out of them but never over phone as they’re can only follow pre-prepared script. Hope this may help.

    However if every TT customer called their tech support and jammed the lines and emailed the tech support to the point the inbox was full then add letters to the editor about how bad TT was as an ISP and if people have a choice they should not use them – – the stink should get things fixed shortly – – – I seen things fixed with a couple of other ISP’s when customers took things into the face of the ISP and not the forum here

    @auxclass, part of the issue as I understand it is how the ISPs choose to implement the IWF filter. Lots of British ISPs are using the IWF, but not all have had this issue, or when they have, it’s been to a lesser degree. TalkTalk should investigate either how they handle the blocking or provide better information to their users about how to resolve it (e.g. if disabling the ‘kidsafe’ option does in fact fix things).

    @Jackie

    Two issues – first is Technical that being how the blocking is being done, TT’s choice seems not to be the best – I fail to believe that they can’t block to the blog level

    The second is the will for TT to do the proper fix – since they seem to not be aware of the issue or willing to address the issue – things need to be made painful for them to not fix the problem, and the peasants with pitchforks and torches at the gate tends to get the attention of the upper management –

    Matt could try calling the CEO of TT, that and the peasants trying to burn down the castle should do it – but many CEO’s are tone deaf to anything but the bottom line – impact the bottom line and they will change – bad reviews of their service – people leaving for other carriers etc

    @auxclass agreed that in an ideal world, TalkTalk can do more, and hearing from their users will likely have the greatest impact. It would also be nice for the IWF to give WP.com a heads up when they add the platform to their filter. However, we are also looking at what we can do if neither of the above actions take place.

    Well, I’m a freelance artist. I somehow doubt that Talk Talk or the IWF are giving a s**t about my opinion.

    WordPress are a world-wide organisation. If you can’t protect your users interests then it’s probably a good to address that in a very active and constructive manner.

    Obviously you’ll lose your users if this continues. I’m sure organisors at wordpress feel frustrated at recent problems. But I’m not even clear of the status of wordpress commenters here.

    I don’t mean to be contentious, I simply want to have a reliable blog, since my income and reputation depend on it to a larger extent!

    @jackiedana
    Is keeping thread open really required? I’m not sure it serves a useful purpose because if and when there is an update it could be posted into a sticky post at the head of the support forums.

    Also, I notice that a previous wordpress manager mentioned connecting my icon (at left) to my updated blog.
    How come everything I post on all social media (facebook, linked In, Goggle + and Twitter) have the correct icon, but not on wordpress blogs or forums?

    I also use another blog with google, with which I’ve had no problems.

    If you can point out where I can update my wordpress status that would be most helpful. Many thanks!

    @rosestrang if you’re concerned about having consistent access to WordPress.com, you might want to investigate other ISPs that have not been having this issue. As for your most recent issue, please post a new thread for assistance.

    @timethief, I think you’re probably right, as there isn’t any new information to provide at this time. I’ll close the thread.
