Are my posts still in the search engine?

  • Unknown's avatar

A week ago I deleted my old blog and put everything into my current one. I’d hate to sound like some kind of attention-whore, but my current site isn’t getting anywhere near as many hits, despite all the tags, posts, pictures being the same. Entries that previously got 40+ hits a day don’t get any now. I’m wondering if something happened when I imported/exported everything, and now I’m not available in the search engine. Am I imagining things, or was there a way to enable/disable being found via the WordPress search engine?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Without a link to the blog(s) in question it is impossible to say what is the cause…but are your sure your visitors are coming from searches on wordpress.com, and not from search engines, e.g. Google?

If they’re coming from Google, then yes, you will experience a drop in traffic while Google is frantically indexing your new site and updating its databases. Besides, since the old content is probably still in its databases, the new same content may be considered ‘duplicate content’ and the newer content will be given lesser or even no value, until Google finds out the old content really doesn’t exist anymore.

‘figured the forum here would at least display one’s main site they’re using.

Thanks though for the info. Tons of people would search for things in my Childhood Crushes countdown every single day, and now I brarely see them show up on my daily stats chart. I just thought it was odd.

If that is the new site then it only has two listings in Google:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Atortugaviejo.wordpress.com
You can try the same for your old site by replacing the address above and see how many results it has. If the site is deleted, with no last notice/post of where to find the new site, no wonder no one is visiting you.

All of the links that went to the posts on the old site now go nowhere. The new blog doesn’t have the advantage of all those old links, and you haven’t told your loyal readers where to find you. Do that.
