Are my settings the best they can be?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, are you able to see if I have the best settings for my blog http://www.poetrycottage.wordpress.com please? Traffic (not that there was that much really) has dropped, seem to have quite a few followers (150 at present); but very few likes and comments. Just want to make sure I haven’t ticked a wrong box! Any help much appreciated.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

No, we cannot see your settings.

Everyone is seeing a recent traffic drop of up to 50% over the past week or so, thanks to changes at Google.

Yes it sucks! I’m not happy at all.

So did the Google “adjustment” give sites they like the increase in traffic or bias traffic where they wanted it to go? Seems to me that to down rate sites that have good original content is a bit counter to common sense.

Agreed. They downgraded blogging sites, as they have been doing steadily for at least a year, and increased the rankings of static corporate sites, as near as I can tell. In part they’ve justified this as a response to spam blog networks and the SEO industry, but it is not fair to good original bloggers.

It’s really a piss off! I have no black hat crap on my blog. My content is mine. Yet dead beat static corporate sites that buy links and pay SEO people to re-spin the same content over and over are still in the rankings. It’s crazymaking!

Thank you so much for all of your replies. Good to know what’s going on. Maybe I’ll just post in the forum daily to receive my daily comments ha ha!

    @cottageonstrawberry
We can’t see your settings but your blog appears to be well organized. I do see one issue with it though that you need to address ASAP.

This is the block of categories and tags you have assigned to your latest post:

This entry was posted in Hope, Poems, Christianity, Healing, Trials & Blessings, Love, Fragrance from the Spring, Photography, Inspiration and tagged fragrance, healing, love, poetry, rose, inspiration, christianity, Fragrance from the Spring, rosebuds, photography, weak, shame, guilt, burdened, healing balm.

All reasons for non-appearance of posts on Topics pages can be found here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/topics/#missing-posts

As you have assigned a combined total that exceeds 15 Categories/Tags to your posts, you need to edit and delete. http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/ After removal of the excess categories and/or tags note it may take several days for your posts to begin displaying there.

You are inadvertently spamming AKA tag spamming. You ought to be more concerned about Google and Bing than the WordPress.com Topics pages because it’s search engines that send a significant flow of traffic to blogs and they can choose to bury your content where the sun don’t shine for tag spamming.

The rule of thumb is to assign the least combined number of relevant categories and tags that accurately describe the post content.

Thank you so much timethief. I must admit I do have a big tendency to get carried away with the categories and tags. Have rectified latest post.
Really appreciate your promptness and taking the time to write such a long really helpful reply.
