Are people notified if I edit comments they've left?

If I edit a comment on one of my posts, to remove a link for instance, is the person who left the comment notified?

No. Why do you ask? I moderate all comments and I don’t approve any comments that have dodgy links in them. You can also set up comment moderation so any comment containing more than __ links is sent into the queue.

…just a quick FYI, and I’m not accusing you of doing this, but it’s never a good idea to edit a comment that changes the original intent of the poster.

I visited the blog. When we are new to blogging we can experience people who post zero value comments just to get their link on our blogs. This is more likely to happen when we are selling our own creations on our blog. As new bloggers are eager to post comments and lack the ability to spot spam links, they can also experience those who include links in the comments they make. If and when the blogger notices that those links are not of value to his/or her readers or they are revealed to be spam links then it makes perfect sense yo delete them. If the blogger attracts others who are also marketing their similar products who submit meaningless comments every time one publishes a post, then don’t hesitate to delete the URL link and leaving the meaningless comment behind.

Thanks for your replies. I’m not normally in the habit of removing links, but there was one left that I felt wasn’t fair on someone that I mentioned in my post. I wondered if they would be notified because they came back and posted two further comments pretending to be someone else. As I later found, this person was intent on causing trouble and while it would be simple to just delete the posts, I want to leave them there for the time being. At least I know now that they were keeping an eye on my blog and not being notified about the post being edited. I now moderate my comments so hopefully that’s the end of it :)

Others have had problems with annoying subscribers. What they experience is Blogger bloggers who have stable of similar or related content free blogs plastered with Adsense. That blogger will have multiple identities and different email addresses. When my friend publishes she gets the same blogger making multiple comments using different identities, all bereft of any value and each one contains username link to one of their blogs in their stable. Comment Moderation is the way to go. -
…I know this kind of goes against what I wrote earlier, but I knew a blogger who wrote about the politics of feminism who, when the trolls came out and left rude responses, would take all the vowels out of their comments. I always thought that was funny. Time consuming, but funny.
