Are pingbacks always good?

  Lately a non-WordPress site keeps leaving a ping back link and I’m wondering if it’s always okay to allow this.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there!

  From a technical perspective, pingbacks are typically a good thing. It means other people are sending their readers to your site!

  However, you may find that the site sending the pingback is posting content you don’t like or agree with. So allowing it to appear is really a personal a choice. Decide whether to approve it or not the same way you would a comment. If the site is courteously linking to, probably best to approve it. If you wish they had never pingbacked you — don’t. :)

  Just because the site linking to you isn’t on WordPress doesn’t mean it’s a bad pingback though.

  Thanks for the information. I can only approve it though if I have that in my settings to approve comments though and I don’t do that. This particular one is an okay site so I don’t mind. If someone does a pingback and I don’t like their site…. and I don’t have the approval setting, is there a way to take it down off a site? (Diane)

  Hi Diane! :)

  Removing a pingback works just like removing a comment. You can see all your comments and pingbacks in your /wp-admin/ dashboard here:

  https://hometogo232.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit-comments.php

  If you hover your mouse over a comment (or pingback) you’ll see several options appear:

  http://en.support.wordpress.com/manage-comments/#comment-actions

  With those options, you can delete any pingback you want removed from your site. This doesn’t remove the link on the other person’s site, it just stops the pingback from appearing on your post.
