Are repeated trackbacks an issue when importing to WP.com?
-
Hi everyone,
Apologies for the re-post, but the SupportBot confused my question for a WP.org question since I’m talking about importing data *to* WP.com but haven’t switched the URL yet.
I have a blog at thezeds.com, and it is running on WP.org 3.0. I’m planning to export its content to WP.com for all the right reasons – no more worries about downtime, server upgrades, broken plugins, etc. I’m a season used of both WP.com and WP.org and I’m confident this is good solution for me.
Now, the question:
Can anyone tell me if WP.com will send out trackbacks/pings to all the sites I’ve linked to once I’ve imported the data to the server and gone live?, i.e., Does WP import/export this record so that trackbacks don’t happen again?
Since I will be domain mapping back to the URL, I won’t need these trackbacks. However, I’m afraid that the trackbacks will happen automatically since the blog’s data will be sitting on a new server in a new DB.
Does anyone have an answer to this question? Your advice is appreciated.

I have never heard of the double-trackback issue happening, and we’ve seen a lot of imports before. That said, it doesn’t mean it won’t happen; why don’t you import only one post and see what happens with it?

FWIW, I just gave it a test.
I created a new trackback on an old post to a test blog on wp.com. It trackbacked like it should.
Then I exported that post to a differnt wp.com blog – the system *did not* trackback a second time. (this is a good thing.)
I guess you can add that to your mental wiki of WP knowledge. Thanks again for the idea.
