Are right-clicked links counted as hits to a file?

I use a blog to distribute public domain eBooks, and have noticed that I get very few hits on the actual books. It could be that there is little interest, although I get a lot of hits. I think instead that most people are right-clicking and “saving as”, which is what I suggest they do in the first place. It just doesn’t seem to register as a hit.

My question, before I go over to the Ideas forum and ask if this can be worked in to the code (if at all possible) is, is this the way that WP.com does things with right-clicked links? I’m talking about PDF files, and they do show up as clicked-on in the stats. Again, the numbers are so low, I figure what’s showing up are left-clicks only.

Hope that made sense, hope all are well.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Right-clicking does, I believe, count as a Click. At least it did the last time I tested it, a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the quick answer. That’s too bad, as far as my stats go :-), but it’s good to know the answer.

If I wanted to test this out, too, could you tell me how you did that? It doesn’t count my own clicks, even if I’m logged out (I’m pretty sure).

Just register a totally different blog and upload a file there to a test post and sign out and click on it. In order for the test to be correct, you MUST be signed out, because WP.com stats don’t count the blog owner when he’s logged in. To be totally sure, log out, clear browser cache and cookies, and restart the computer, THEN click on the link.

You mean have two user accounts? Because I have six blogs, and they’re all registered to the same user account. … I guess it’s not an issue, though, because I know a couple other WP.com bloggers who could test it out for me. Thank you for clarifying this. I’ve been wondering about it off and on for a couple years!

    Hope all are well.

I just tested this and a Right Click – Save As – gave me one click on the PDF file.

Used my test site and logged out after showing the Post then did a Right Click on the PDF file link.

I appreciate that. That saves me a great deal of time.

PS – you don’t need two accounts – you don’t even need a test blog – you could make a Post with a PDF file in it and test it that way – just make sure you are logged out – you could call the PDF file “test” or something then delete the Post.

What @RC said was that many people have a blog set up just to test stuff on – my test site is one I don’t use anymore.
