Are tags Useful?

  I notice that some people add 2 or 3 tags at the end of each blog post. If I understand correctly, that helps other people find your blog. Are tags useful for that?

  I also read somewhere that it is against the “rules” to use too many tags (I think it was called tag spamming?)

  Can someone enlighten me about Tags? Thank you!

  Tags can be useful. You can thing of them as a way to refine categories, but as far as the global tags pages and the search engines are concerned, categories and tags are treated the same.

  Thanks. I’m trying to decide if I want to use tags in my blog posts. I’ll check out the FAQ link you suggested.

  I also have another question. Sometimes, bloggers highlight a word in the middle of a post that can be clicked on and followed back to a previous post if the previous post,for example, is related to whatever subject the blogger happens to be posting about. What is this called, and how do you implement it?

  Please forgive my ignorance. I am so thankful for your suggestions.

  You just make it exactly like a link to an external website, only it goes to YOUR posts. I do that all the time.

  Thanks, raincoaster. I’m not quite sure how to make a link to an external website. I’ll check it out on the FAQ’s. If I still don’t get it, I’ll try the forum again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

  **where you write your post – in the visual editor- you’ll see a character that looks like a chain link. Right beside it is another character that looks like a broken chain link.

  while viewing your post in the visual editor, highlight the words in your post in the visual editor that you would want to have your visitors click on in order to lead them to another post.

  Then click that ‘chain link’ character.

  up pops a spot for you to enter the URL that you want your visitors to go to, when they click on those words you just highlighted.

  enter the url, beginning with the http all the way through the end, example: .com

  that’s it.

  if you want to unlink it – undo what you did – highlight those words again and this time hit the button that looks like the broken chain link.
