Are themes becoming unnecessarily complicated?

I’ve been using WordPress daily for a few years now and like it. However, a couple themes I’ve bought for clients lately have me questioning WordPress’ direction. It seems like there’s more and more places to edit wordpress in the control panel now, it seems too complicated. For example, one thing I’m using, the styles.css is almost empty, so I have to find the css elsewhere to edit some things. There’s also the option of Visual Composer, Appearance > Customize, Appearance > Theme Name, Visual Composer > Custom CSS, etc. There’s also some overlap in some of these options capabilities. I’d rather just have as few CSS files as possible, and edit them there. Anyone else out there feeling the same thing? Any feedback is appreciated.

  • Hi there,

I gather from the details you’ve mentioned that you are running a self hosted install of WordPress from WordPress.org. These forums are specifically for support on sites hosted on WordPress.com. Please visit WordPress.org forums for support/discussion on self-hosted installs.

You can find more information about this here. :)
