Are there any staff members who can personally help me out/contact me?

  • Unknown's avatar

I’ve contacted wordpress several times in the past month and I haven’t gotten any response whatsoever. Are there any actual staff/tos report members who could contact me one-on-one directly? I could give my e-mail here if necessary.

Don’t give your email here. Spammers will grab it.

The best way to contact staff is to do so via the web page http://support.wordpress.com/contact

I’ve tried that, and Ive gotten nowhere.

I can create a new e-mail account for this exchange if that makes any difference.

It will make no difference. That’s the link to contact staff.

So if I get no response whatsoever in weeks, what do I do?

Perhaps you could try explaining the issue here in the forum and we might be able to solve the problem. WordPress does not typically offer one-on-one assistance.

Basically a stalker posted personal information on me (where I live, etc) on the comments for a journal. According to tos, this is against the rules.

The first time I reported it, it got removed in a day.

The same exact comments are now back up, I’ve reported it to wordpress several times, and nada

Oh yes, this issue. What you probably need to do is move forward with legal advice. I’m quite sure staff are aware of your issue and what they’ve said in the past is that for legal reasons they cannot give individual replies.

In fact, a moderator posted that in one of your previous threads:

Why can’t they just delete the comments like they’ve done in the past, or at the very least remove the personal information? Why does it have to be some big ordeal with them? I’ll get the police involved if I have to, but it’s extremely frustrating that wordpress can’t do something so incredibly simple.

In their emails, when WP helped you last year to remove the comments from the same blog, Mark and/or Sheri should have left an email address… at least they have with me in the past. If you still have them, try using the email addresses they supplied.

Each staff member has their own email account, and their own blog. [removed: please don’t direct people to my personal info.]

The simple way to reach Mark — the head of WP support — is through his WP site, http://mark.wordpress.com/about-2/ , but there’s no guarantee he still checks that account, and there’s no guarantee he would respond.

All I got last time was a comment from Mark saying “the comments have been removed” and nothing else.

Do know where i can find the other staff’s e-mails? I’ll try leaving a message on Mark’s wordpress in the meantime.

We can’t explain why staff are making the decisions they’re making; they aren’t commenting to us any more than they’re commenting to you.

Speaking as someone who has in the past gotten police involved, I’d have to say it’s not such a big deal. It’s one phonecall and probably a couple of interviews. Get it done, especially if this is a recurring issue. Think of it as a way to smack the offender with a rolled-up newspaper without going to court over it. The cops will generally be HAPPY to drop the offender a line and speak rather pointedly to the issue.

  • Unknown's avatar

Thanks, I’ll try doing that. I was worried that the police would get pissed off for wasting their time with something that is arguably small potatoes like this. So as long as I call the non-emergency line, that’d be okay with them?

  • Unknown's avatar

The non-emergency line would be fine. Put together a list of the comments, username’s, URL’s and a time line so you have something to show what the stalker has been doing. Writing out how you’ve felt, and what you feel the threat is, would be a good idea as well.

Matt and Mark (mark sAT wordpress dot com) are probably the only two WP people you’d ever need to talk to regarding a clarification of the WP comment policy.

The police will not get pissed off. Especially since this shows a pattern of behaviour, this makes it easy for them. They would much rather prevent a serious crime than respond to a serious crime, and flagging this perpetrator early is something that HELPs them. They can keep an eye on him and if other complaints come in, see if there’s a pattern of abuse and enough to arrest or use in court. That part’s up to them. But they don’t even know theguy is a problem until someone tells them.

Ask to speak to someone in either the internet abuse section or perhaps someone who deals with stalking. Those are the two departments that would tackle this.
