Are there reports of semalt.com abuse by other WordPress bloggers?
-
What is semalt? I’ve read their website and it’s about as informative as chewed gum.
My concern is I believe vonsimeon.wordpress.com is being mirrored by someone fronting as wordpress. On 12/29/13 I received a genuine notice from wordpress.com asking to activate my account. However, my account was activated November 1, 2013.
I’ve changed my password and re-authenticated two-step login. But it seems any and all web traffic is exclusively from semalt.com.
Thoughts? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there,
Semalt is primarily a form of link referral spam… they are essentially hitting your site with bogus traffic in the form of an advertisement for their services.
With this in mind, it is good to know that they are not mirroring your site or compromising it in any way. Just hopping to get your attention (I’m sure they have) and get you to click on the link and sign up for their services.
The bad news is that, because this is the internet, and you have a public site, there is little that you can do to prevent this form of referral traffic, but you can block it from your stats so that it doesn’t throw off your numbers.
More info here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/stats/#marking-spam-referrers
Hope that helps. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you, Jerrysarcastic.
I did invoke the referrer spam indicator. I noticed my numbers did shift, but I’d rather have 4 authentic visits then 20 spam-induced hits.
And it looks a bit neater.
Do want to note that, on the web version I don’t see semalt.com listed as a referrer anymore, but I do see semalt.com listed as a referrer in my WordPress for Android application. Just sayin’.
Again, appreciate your follow-through! Von
