Are these Phishing emails

  • Unknown's avatar

I have received several emails from wordpress@”my website address” asking me to validate my email address. The trouble is the emails they are asking to be validated do not appear on my profile. They are our family and business emails but not associated with our wordpress site. I assume that these are phishing emails and not genuine. Can anyone confirm this?

  • Hi,

Emails coming from @wordpress.com or @automattic.com are legitimate. Any other domains claiming to be WordPress are likely phishing attempts.

Do not click any links or provide credentials in emails from unknown sources.

While I can’t confirm whether you are using WordPress.com or self-hosted WordPress as you have not provided link to your website, usually WordPress sends direct login emails to admins when some error has occured on the website and you need to login to the admin to fix.

Those emails has “(email visible only to moderators and staff)” address format.

This being said, this could be attempt of phishing.

It’s better to avoid clicking on any link without verifying its genuineness.

  • @ghyllfarm I’ll reach out to you by email so that you can share a screenshot and we can better confirm for you.
