Are WP sites automatically mobile-friendly?

Are WP sites automatically mobile-friendly? That is, will a site I create on my PC be correctly presented on a smartphone or tablet? Do I have to do something to make it look right on those devices?

I’m considering moving my domain to WP and want to be sure that it will be viewable on a smartphone.

    Thanks.

    Hi there,

When you browse a WordPress.com blog via a mobile devise special themes designed for small screens are shown. Here’s a link to where this information appears. https://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/mobile-themes/

Thank you, ackaeser. My existing site was made with Weebly, but Weebly withdrew its support from A Small Orange, where my site’s hosted, so I need to get on a host where I can edit my site. I don’t like the looks of it now, anyway. WordPress evidently made a free blog site for me today, and I accessed that on my phone, and it looks great. So I guess I don’t have to worry about this issue. I had a site that wasn’t mobile-friendly until about two years ago that I coded by hand myself, including CSS, but things have developed to the point where I hadn’t a clue about making a site mobile-friendly and had to go with Weebly. How I wish I had someone who could do all this for me. And after I get the mechanics and logistics done, then I have to worry about improving the content. Thanks, again.

  • Hi there,

The Mobile Themes link @ackaeser gave above is actually intended to use if you have a theme that is not mobile-friendly already. Only people with old, retired themes actually need to enable that mobile theme.

All of our newer themes, i.e. most that are currently available in the theme showcase, are fully responsive, so you should be able to use any of the themes under My Site ->Themes for a mobile-friendly site. If in doubt, just view the theme demo on a mobile device to check.
