Are You Sure You Want To Publish?
-
I’ve had a couple of “premature” publishings this month. Times where I didn’t know I published. Could be that I clicked inadvertently on publish or changed a schedule time … I don’t know. But what I’m wondering is if there is some setting somewhere that makes me answer the question “Are You Sure You Want To Publish?” before the post is released to the wild.
Anyone know of such a thing?

“Are You Sure You Want To Publish?”
Sorry there is not that feature – I have just learned over time to always click on the save draft button – I save early and often & preview a lot – just my habit I guess
The “are you sure” is ask for from time to time, but I would find it intrusive and annoying

@Ian, I am with you! A big problem for me is that when editing an already-published post (which i do compulsively) the save or update button is located exactly where “publish” is on a new post.
So when working on a new post I am pre-conditioned to go to the “publish” button to save/update, instead of the true “save draft” button in the upper left that auxclass referred to–this has resulted in several premature publishings.
I would love an “are you sure?” feature, AND for that Update button to be in a different place than the Publish button.
What I now do is set any new post to “private” while I’m working on it and let it “publish” immediately–no one but me can see it that way while I’m working on it. I only set it to “public” when it’s finally ready.
If that makes the date stamp wrong, you can manually reset it to the right date/ time when you change the post from private to public. The date/time is in the same little module as the publish / save.
(this all applies to the ‘old’ classic editor, I have no idea how the new “beep boop” editor works, as I never use it!)

@auxclass thanks for your reply. My issue isn’t about good habits but about accidental clicks that orematurely publish. I like to blame my Microsoft Surface! :-)
I agree that “are you sure?” Buttons are personal preference. I would like to see this as a setting we could opt for. Thoughts?

I have accidentally clicked to publish a draft but the last thing I want is another button.

@timethief- I don’t want an extra button either, I just wish the update/ save button for already published posts were in the upper left where the “save draft” button is (when working on a new post), and not in the “publish” space where it is now…
If you mean extra clicks, I get that, too, but couldn’t an “are you sure” message be optional, like other wordpress features? Like that “congratulations! this is your 133rd post!” message that would come up annoyingly after publishing–I think I remember it being easy to opt out of that.
