[Argent Theme] Portfolio on Front Page appearance

    Hi!

I tried to solve this by looking through other posts, but I don’t think it’s covered, so here I am.

The site I’m working on is: http://shannonalstin.wordpress.com (it’s for my school coursework), and right now I’ve got seven portfolio projects on the front-page.

My question is: how can I make the projects line up so it’s alphabetical (so 1 appears top left instead of bottom right). Also in the future, I’ll be adding more projects to my portfolio but I only want those seven on the front page, I don’t want the newer projects on the front page.

(Side questions: can I make the project link font smaller? or not displaying? it’s just that there’s a bit of spillage and also the featured image repeats the text too.)

    Thanks!

P.S. The Argent Theme has been really lovely to work with. Thanks to the designers for reading my mind, and giving me exactly what I needed. LOL.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi,

By default the projects will appear in reverse chronological order from left to right, top to bottom, according to the publish dates. To reverse the order of a numerically ordered portfolio, you could change each of the dates correspondingly, but there’s a much easier way to accomplish this. The simplest way to reverse the order would be to use customized portfolio shortcode in the content of a static front page, but with the default template assigned, not the front page template, and the default ascending order changed to descending. The basic code with just the order reversed would be
    [portfolio order=desc]

Other attributes listed in the Portfolio Shortcode support page may be added.

    Thank you! @musicdoc1

Just to follow up – does that mean, for this theme, I’ll need to take the page off of the front page template, add the shortcode to the page, and then uncheck the portfolio checkbox in the customize settings? Would that also mean I could just use another theme altogether and get a similar front page layout?

    Amendment:
You could also use the front page template with portfolio shortcode if you uncheck “Show Portfolio Section” at Customize > Theme Options. Otherwise the portfolio will show twice on the front page, or on any page with the front page template assigned.

    You’re welcome.

…does that mean, for this theme, I’ll need to take the page off of the front page template, add the shortcode to the page, and then uncheck the portfolio checkbox in the customize settings?

If you use the front page template, then uncheck the “Show Portfolio Section” box. If you don’t, and use the default page template instead, then the box is irrelevant since it only applies to the front page template.

Would that also mean I could just use another theme altogether and get a similar front page layout?

That’s correct. However, a lot of features and options might vary from theme to theme. Things such as text size and style, text color, portfolio content width, whether a front page template is an option, how many page template options there are, etc.
