arrange videos side by side horizontally in a page

I created a page for videos and I don’t want it to be a super long page. I want to have 2 or 3 videos horizontally so that the page length is shorter. I am posting youtube videos. How do I accomplish this?

I believe this depends on which theme are you using. Have you noted the size for the posting area pertaining to your specific theme? The resource for this determination is here http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/09/25/how-big-can-my-images-be/

thanks for the response. I still have a few questions (I’m a newbie). Can I adjust the size of the video? can I use html to set the videos side by side? I would like to try to set them side by side and see how it goes, I’m ok with experimenting and seeing what happens. that may be an easy way to see if there is enough space. I have 1 video up and it looks like there is plenty of space for another.

No, I don’t believe you can.

    I don’t know.

I have looked at your blog which is in the Andreas 09 theme and I disagree with your determination that there’s plenty of space for two videos side by side. IMO there is only enough space in the posting space for the one you have.( N.B. sidebars are separate spaces that you can’t use for this purpose.
I’m sorry you aren’t getting the answer you wanted to hear but eh, don’t shoot the messenger, okay?

I’m sure you can figure out some method of placing videos side by side (a table comes to mind) but I can’t think of really any themes that would allow something that wide. You also run into the issue of your visitor’s browser’s windows being wide enough to display side by side.

thanks for the response. Does that mean I should give up on the idea?

if I used wordpress.org, would I be able to accomplish it there with or without using it as a cms? sorry, I’m not sure whether to ask this here or wordpress.org.

You can do it. Just place the videos within a table side by side. The major issue though is that you’re going to stretch your theme and that would occur if you were hosted here or elsewhere. You’re talking about a post width of at least 850 pixels (Youtube is 425 pixels wide, right?) plus your sidebar. Choose one of the themes that don’t have a set width like the WordPress Classic theme.

    @shimonblog and drmike
Ummmm … please excuse my interjection but I did check this out earlier and this is what I found. The width required for two videos is 850 pixels. The FAQs size link I gave you above lists the themes and sizes. And the widest are Shocking Blue Green .. 800px; Silver is the new Black .. 800px, and WordPress Classic .. 800px.
Consequently, I’m afraid you may be out of luck, :( unless (1) you’re willing to upgrade and pay $15 to customize your css of your wordpress.com blog or (2) move to self hosting or hire a webhost and then download a free wordpress blog template over here http://wordpress.org and then adjust it accordingly.

I’d like to post two videos side by and am reading the thread from November 12, 2006 in which this issue was brought up. Is this the last commentary on the subject? Pay $15 to customize your css of your wordpress.com blog? I wouldn’t mind paying $15 if it works. How do I do that? I’m new to this. Appreciate it mucho.

That is the last word on the subject. I believe buying the CSS upgrade will let you widen your column so it is possible, but I’m not sure that you’d be able to add the functionality of a scroll bar, so it is quite possible your videos would be useless, because one of them would always be partially off the monitor screen.

Actually, I haven’t looked it it hard, but I believe that there is spacing set into the embedded videos that will force each one onto a new “line” underneath.

I have to admit that I haven’t tried this though.

As a test, you could get a couple of videos, put them in a page, pick a theme like Sandbox, make a CSS change to the width of the page and preview it to see what happens. You wouldn’t have to pay for the CSS upgrade to find it’s useless if it doesn’t work.

I think you would have to stick with Dr. Mike’s suggestion of a table to keep them in place.

Moreover, unless you are adept at both html (table) and css customization the css upgrade is not recommended. Staff do not provide support for those learning css customization and will not “fix” what gets borked during the process. Fellow bloggers do drop in from time to time and give css advice but generally speaking you are on your own.

    Missed that one, sorry!
