  I would like to arrange the widgets side by side in the theme used but it is showing them underneath one another.

  Please help

  That would be because what you want to do is not possible. Widgets cannot be displayed in posts or pages. They can only be displayed in sidebar or widget footer areas as defined by each theme. See here for your detailed theme description. http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/edin/

  Widget Areas
  Edin offers seven widget areas, which can be configured in Appearance → Widgets:

  A sidebar widget area, which appears on the right or left.
  Three optional footer widget areas.
  Three optional widget areas on the Front Page Template.

  Also note the “Alternate Sidebar Page” entry on that same theme description page.
