Hey @bluewolfmike as I see you’re using a self-hosted WordPress instance and not a WordPress.com account – right ?
The WordPress.org support forum is here : https://wordpress.org/support/ however, I would be happy to help you, just let me know what’s all about ?

Thank you very much Dragoso! First of all can you tell me the difference between WordPress instance and WordPress.com account? I thought I had an account. In looking over the basics yesterday I came across the term “API.” Can you tell me what this stands for and what the purpose of it is? Thanks very much Dragoso. Mike

Hey, you’re most welcome! :) The one major difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org is who’s actually hosting your website.
With WordPress.org, YOU host your own blog or website. WordPress.org is where you’ll find the free WordPress software that you can download and install on your own web server – I’ll call this a WordPress instance = WordPress installation.
WordPress.com, on the other hand, takes care of all of the hosting for you. You don’t have to download software, keep WordPress up-to-date, secure or manage a web server.
However, here is the difference between those two explained in details: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
Regarding your other question: What’s an API and how it works ?
API stands for ‘application programming interface’, but basically describes one way to plug your website into another. Commercial sites make some parts of their code available to developers so that they can built tools for the site. The code they expose is called the API and the stuff they build – the tools and widgets – are called applications.
An API is best thought of as a contract provided by one piece of computer software to another.
It’s important to note that pieces of software can interact with or without an API.
For example:
Without API:
An app finds the current weather in London by opening http://www.weather.com/ and reading the webpage like a human does, interpreting the content. With API:
An app finds the current weather in London by sending a message to the weather.com API (in a structured format like JSON). The weather.com API then replies with a structured response.makes sense ? :) If you have other questions, please let me know!
Have a good one!

Im just getting started and I have a good feeling about this program but its been a while since Ive worked on a website and some of it look somewhat intimidating to me. Thanks so much – Mike
