Askimet Error (Line 108/109/) For API Key Installation

I’ve searched here, and googled for an answer but I have not seen anything that suggests I’m even close to finding something out about my specific problem o_0

I’ve got my blog hosted elsewhere (i.e. not WordPress.com), I have the most recent version of Askimet installed (1.15). I have logged in here and have my API key that came in the “welcome” email. I activated Askimet on my blog (shows as “Deactivate” under “Action” in the PlugIn Management section of the administration area) and the “Akismet is not active. You must enter your WordPress.com API key for it to work.” message shows at the top of the page.

I click on “Askimet Configuration” to go and enter my API Key and I’m met with an endless loop in the PHP such as this:
Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /blog/wp-content/plugins/akismet/akismet.php on line 108

Warning: feof(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /blog/wp-content/plugins/akismet/akismet.php on line 110

Warning: fgets(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in /blog/wp-content/plugins/akismet/akismet.php on line 111

It then loops back and forth between line 110 and line 111. So Askimet, to me, is not active.

Can anyone help with this? I just want to activate the plugin in order to help combat Spam on the blog.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Dave – unfortunately there’s two minor problems:

    1. wp.com is only for support of wp.com blogs.

    2. Even if we were able to help I doubt any of us could.

    Can I suggest two things:

    1. ask at http://www.wordpress.org/support
    2. email the guys direct at Automattic.

The first option is probably better, but as automattic wrote the plugin you might just get a decent response from them.

    Good luck!

    Whoa..

Two different wordpress sites requiring two different usernames and passwords (or registering the same username twice :) ) to ask questions about software that comes with the downloadable blog or the blog that exists here.. weird..

I’m off to see if wordpress.org/support has any info.

    Thanks Collin,
    Dave

Yep, sucky I know, but that’s the way it is.

I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you.
