Asking for immediate suspension of domain name
-
Hello,
Two days ago I opened this account, bought a Personal Plan and registered the domain name [redacted]. Since I found the themes and functions in WP more difficult to use than expected I cancelled my Personal Plan and asked for a refund.
Now I would like to use the domain name [redacted] with another website builder without waiting 14 days for its automatic suspension announced in your email. Could you please help me to suspend the mentioned domain name as from today so that I can register it again or suggest another way of keeping it with a different website builder?
Best regards and thank you in advance,
Gino

Well, as you can guess, I did not mean to publish my request here. I thought I would be getting support privately from WordPress.
:(
Any help to contact WordPress staff or cancel this post will be appreciated. ;)

Gino, I have added the “modlook” tag to alert the WordPress staff to investigate and progress with you.

Thank you ‘sjfow’, the WP staff I chatted with told me she was not entitled to remove my query and would ‘look into it’. I hope your tag will be faster in solving this.

Hi Gino,
Now I would like to use the domain name ‘mediterranean-classic-sailing’ with another website builder without waiting 14 days for its automatic suspension announced in your email.
We only recommend cancelling a domain if it won’t be needed again in the future. When a domain is cancelled, you no longer have an ownership and there is no guarantee you will be the first person to register it again.
There are a couple of options:
1. Because you cancelled the domain so soon, it should be released back into the pool of available domains in around 5 days. It can then be registered elsewhere.
2. If we are quick, I can restore [redacted] back to your site. It can be transferred to another register after 60 days the name servers can be updated to point to your new site until then.
The domain cost has already been refunded so I would need to send a payment request for that amount before [redacted] can be restored.
Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you so much Gemma! Your answer is absolutely clear and very helpful. Thank you so much!!
May I ask you to remove this query from the public support forum and continue your advice through another chanel?

Hi classicmediterraneansailing,
You’re very welcome! I’m afraid we can only remove forum threads if they represent a valid safety or security concern. There is more information about this policy in our Best Practices & Community Standards post:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/best-practices-community-standards
However, I’ve removed the link to your site/full URL from the title and the contents of the thread. I hope this helps.
Which of the options did you prefer?

Thank you so much gemmacevans! Your help has been incredibly useful.
If you still can, I would kindly ask you to remove the last mention of my deleted URL that still appears in the second line of my initial post.
Concerning the option I would prefer, I’m not sure I understand all the details and implications. Does option 2 mean that you can restore the domain name I cancelled and that I will be able to re-route visitors who type in my cancelled domain name to another site until I can transfer my domain name to that other site? If that’s so then this is definitely what I would like to do.
I’m looking very much forward to reading your reply. :)

Hi classicmediterraneansailing,
I would kindly ask you to remove the last mention of my deleted URL that still appears in the second line of my initial post.
Sure! It looks I missed that one, sorry.
Does option 2 mean that you can restore the domain name I cancelled and that I will be able to re-route visitors who type in my cancelled domain name to another site
Yes, that correct. Once the domain has been restored to your site, the name servers can be updated to point at a different site. It can take up to 72 hours for this change to take effect but once it has, anyone visiting your domain will see the new site (not your WordPress.com site).
This is the safer option out of the two because it means you retain ownership of the domain.
If that’s so then this is definitely what I would like to do.
I’ve sent a payment request to the email address on your Account Settings page. As soon as that is paid, I’ll look at restoring the domain for you.
Please let me know if you don’t receive it.
Thanks!

You’ve been of great help, gemmacevans!
I have received the payment request and secured the domain name I wanted.
Thank you for everything! ;)

Thanks — the payment has come through and I’ve restored the domain back to your account:
https://wordpress.com/domains/manage
Your hosting provider should be provide you with the name servers and these steps will guide you through the process of updating them:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/change-name-servers/
A verification email has also been sent — this is to verifying the contact details you entered when registering the domain. Please follow the instructions in that email and I’ll be happy to check everything looks okay from this end once you’ve done so.
