Asking WordPress to delete a domain I want as my blog name
-
Hello, I really would like to have the domain http://jasphotography.wordpress.com/ I can see that this domain/blogname has already been taken but hasnt been touched or used since 2009.
Is there any way to email wordpress or ask the support team if they could track this and possibly delete the domain/blogname so this will become available again?
Regards
Justin

No, wordpress.com does not recycle unused names, even if the blog has been deleted. (If you think about it, you may see that if you delete your blog, then someone else uses the same name and posts about a topic or viewpoint that you find objectionable, you’d be displeased if your former visitors and friends thought it was you — or even if you don’t find it objectionable, you probably wouldn’t want that.) This is why people are advised not to delete a blog they don’t want to use, but just to make it private, since once the blog is deleted, it cannot be recovered, and not to change user names, but just display names, in case one wants to have that user name in the future — once a user name is deleted, it’s gone forever.
What you can do if you really want a particular domain name is sign up for a wordpress.com blog under some other name and then purchase your own domain name and have the wordpress.com blog mapped to that domain. It is $17 a year, $25 if you want private registration included.

…you could also try leaving a comment on their blog, asking if they’d be willing to hand the blog over to you.

Hi I have the same question concerning “Human Progress” but in this case the blog has been created in 2006 and never even been used. There is only the Hello World on it.
It would be a shame that such a meaningful name should be lost forever, don’t you agree? -
If I register a domain and then never use it at all, then that is my business. I can use it or not. I can let it go or not. It is my choice.
Do as @johnnytesting suggests and leave a comment on that site asking if they would be willing to transfer it to you. Do not let them delete it as a way of freeing it up as that will lose it forever. Deletion is permanent.
