assigning a post to a specific page

I want to pick which menu item (page) to assign a post to; they are all automatically going under archives; but i want to pick where they go (podcast/question of the week, etc).

I’m afraid it isn’t possible to post to a page, as pages are used for more static/unchanging content. However, you can group posts together by using Categories.
By categorizing each of your posts, you can create Category pages so that each of your posts about a certain topic, such as food or travel, can be viewed on the food or travel Category page, as well as the main posts page.
To add Categories to your posts, please follow the instructions available here:

Glad to hear that! I just went in and updated your Dashboard -> Settings -> Reading page to display your posts on your “Home” page.
You can always modify your front page settings via your Settings -> Reading page and the drop-down menus below Front Page Displays -> A Static Page.
