Assigning blog posts to show up on a page other than home page
-
Seeking to have blog posts roll up on a page other than my home page. For example, my home page houses illustrations only, so I made a page called “Blog” where I’d like to solely feature text posts. How can I create a new post and assign it to show up only on that page?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi!
Unfortunately, there really isn’t a way to do this and still maintain the circle look on the Spun theme. By default, the front page will display all of your recent posts, regardless of whether they’re text or illustration. Are you set on that circular layout of the theme or are you open to having a more traditional blog layout on your homepage (with posts appearing one after another in a stream)?

Yeah, I am stuck on the circle, Spun, theme because I need my home page to showcase illustrations, but I was under the impression that wordpress was customizable enough that I could maintain a separate page on my site as a traditional blog. I’ve seen this before on other sites, if you think of any ways I can manage this – I’m really needing to make that happen.

Hi!
There are ways that you can separate blog posts onto separate pages, namely using the category pages described here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/
However, the Spun theme is unique in that it only showcases the circular page template when your front page is set to display your latest posts, which isn’t filterable by category at WordPress.com.
If you’re settled on the Spun theme, this won’t be possible while maintaining the circles. However, if you’re open to exploring other themes (not with the same circular layout), we could make this happen!

Thanks, this is what I needed. I don’t want the circle theme on my Blog page – I want that page to look like a traditional, blog. I appreciate your assistance.

Hi!
I apologize if my last message was confusing. With the Spun theme, any post that you add to your blog will be included in the circles. It’s not possible to post to your blog and not have it appear within the circles on your home page.
It looks like currently, you’re posting pages instead of posts as a workaround here:
That is the main solution I would recommend going forward. I’m sorry there isn’t an easier way to achieve what you’re looking for!

Right, I got very excited about the categories, until I had read and re-read and tried a few times, I then realized it wasn’t going to work. So I’m working around it the best I can.
Thanks,

I understand. I’m sorry there isn’t an easier way to accomplish this Megan! The only thought I had would be to create two sites at WordPress.com. One, megansmit.wordpress.com would house you illustrations like it does now. Then, we would create blog.megansmit.com that would house your blog posts.
It would require a bit of work, but I’m happy to walk you through it! Would you prefer that method to your current workaround?

I thought about doing that too, but I really would prefer to have one site to maintain and would also like to keep my visitors on my main site. For now I’ll just deal with the work around, perhaps in the future I’ll revamp and choose another theme – but for the time being, I think this is still the best theme for me.
Thanks for your willingness to help.
