associating home page with front page

  I created a blog http://www.stvact.wordpress.com a while ago, and I want to do serious work on it. I want the front page to show latest posts, and I also want a page (probably ‘home’), which when I go to it takes me back to the front page. My recollection is that by default when you set up a site the very first page you create is associated with the front page. I must have done something wrong because I cannot seem to be able to achieve that. Is there any way I can retrieve that situation please, or do I have to delete the site and start again?
