Attachment image has dissapeared!
-
On the first page top left of my site there is a small image along with the text. It used to go to a larger version on an attachment page, but suddenly it has stopped doing it. I can see it in my blog files on my computer, in a file wordpress seems to have invented for me and which warns me I had better not change its title! I haven’t!
What could I have done to mess it up?
I don’t really understand how WordPress links to the images or whether they stand alone once uploaded. I mean if my computer crashed, would my site still be there…sorry to be so naieve! I worry now about changing titles etc.
Thanks for any help. -
Weirder still is that the picture by the text (backview) has also dissapeared completely on a friends computer whereas it is still here on mine although I had left the MY computer turned off for a couple of hours. It still has no attachment image…saying page not available (or something like that). Help!
I don’t mind re-loading it but would like to know what is going on. THANKS. -
The image is (was) this:
http://juliamatcham.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/backview.jpg
This URL gives a “File not Found” response, which probably means you have deleted the image from the Media Library of your blog. If you can still see it on your blog page, then you’re looking at a cached version of that page.Your Media Library displays the images you have uploaded. Uploading means sending a copy to WP for storage: once it’s over, there’s no connection with your computer any more. If you delete images from your computer, or if your computer crashes, the images you have uploaded (and your whole blog) will still be there because they’re hosted by WP. If you delete them from your Media Library, they’re gone from your blog.

Thank you …will check…maybe delete and upload again to avoid confusion.
Very relieved that once uploaded they remain there! … I thought it might be a bit like Picasa simply linking in some magic way.
But what is the self-invented file (full of stuff I don’t understand) I have nesting in my files that told me when I was about to change the name (because Picasa is always in alphabetical order and ignores Parent files so to speak) that I mustn’t do that or my WordPress won’t work properly?
Anyway this a great forum and I am grateful. I have no techy friends except here! -
More trouble! I can’t edit the ‘ghost’ backview out. I uploaded another but then had two images one of which dissapears when I try to edit it it out (the one you say must be in a cached version of page…don’t know what that means! ) It just leaves an un-editable small space in the text.. So I deleted the new one out again for the time being. I looked at the HTML out of curiosity, but wouldn’t know which bit to delete. Could you help me again please!

If you switch the post editor to HTML, the part you must delete is this:
<a href="http://juliamatcham.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/backview.jpg"><img class="alignleft size-medium wp-image-13" title="Backview" src="http://juliamatcham.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/backview.jpg?w=146&h=252" alt="" width="146" height="252" /></a>Then you can easily re-upload and insert your image as if the previous one was never there.
