Attachment Page Navigation Missing from Newer Themes

Just what the title says. No Previous or Next links available on Attachment pages.
So far, Celsius, Isola, Edin, Adaption, and Big Brother and that’s all the time I have today.
Using Chrome36.

Hi Jen, thanks for the heads up! I’m checking with our theme team to find out more about why those themes don’t have the Previous or Next links on their attachment pages. I’ll let you know once I have more details about it. :)

Hi Jen, I heard back from the team about this. What you’re seeing in some newer themes, where the attachment pages don’t have those links, is an intentional change. We’re now recommending the carousel in image galleries as a more comfortable way to scroll through images in a post.

Hi Rachel, thanks for checking with the theme team. To be honest I kind of expected that was going to be the answer because I’ve had this conversation in the past concerning other previously released themes. This is probably one of the up- (or down-) sides of being a forum member for so long and particularly one who enjoys picking the Gallery feature apart.
The bottom line is that there should be consistency across themes concerning attachment page navigation, just like there is with Next Page, the More tag and commenting, which work the same in all themes.
Without this consistency, you change users expectations on how a basic theme function works and it certainly will have an impact on those users that change their themes from one that supports Attachments and one that doesn’t and vice versa.

I hear you about the value of consistency. In this case, attachment pages are considered part of the theme design/functionality and may vary between themes, but you’ll probably notice a trend (at least here at WordPress.com) away from that attachment page navigation. Attachment pages will continue to work as individual pages, just without that navigation.
That change in some of the newer themes is related to a change that was made in the _s starter theme, which is used as a base for a lot of the themes being developed these days at WordPress.com. That said, I’ll certainly pass along your comments to the team so they can consider them. :)

Oh.Wait.
Is there a chance that we’ll be able to link individual images to the Photo Carousel? That would be a fabulous improvement to the awkward way of doing it now.
