Attacks and abuse
-
This has no hurry to be answered, but I’d like to know.
From my experience with .org, I learned a lot about attacks and abuse on a site –
and it’s rather extreme. In addition to real-time blocklist, I had to manually block
IP’s several times a week. Numerous bad bots, spiders, stopping yandex, stopping people to do damage coming from googleusercontent, stopping those who came with linux+android, all the spam – I could go on…………
Addresses would send 20-50 attempts 2-3 times over 24 hours – and go on for weeks.
As I used to remind my students: Internet is a blessing, but it’s also a very, very dark abyss.Premium plan doesn’t open for plugins, which – really is one of the reasons I came back to .com. All the updates, all the watching over the site every day took the juice out of me in the end.
How secure are we really on .com?
Can Jetpack watch all these attacks and abuses? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Generally, one big advantage to managed hosting such as WordPress.com is that WE take on the heavy lifting for site security.
The tradeoff is that you give up a bit of control over your site in this regard. For some folks, that is a big relief. For others, they may prefer to handle it all on their own.

Everything doesn’t have to be breathtaking!
True, I have to accept I can’t always have things looking exactly as I (previous) would want it to be presented. But I’m sure I will learn more of the block editing as time passes, and I will certainly have more positivity in my bones when I don’t have to deal with abuse and attacks on a daily basis.
It’s just a little site in the making……………!
