(A) This is where to upload avatars-> Users -> Your Profile
Avatars are not displayed next to posts. They are only displayed with comments left on wordpress blogs when the user is signed in and on the wordpress.com category tag pages.(B) Adding authors

https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=6778(1) Choose a theme that displays “authors”. Note that there are theme reviews here http://engtech.wordpress.com/tools/wordpress/wordpress-theme-reviews/
(2) Or if the theme does not do this and you do not want to change themes then create a category Called “Authors” as a “parent” category and then create sub-categories “children” for each author’s name under the parent Category “Authors”.
(3) If neither of the above suit you then have each author type in a byline on their posts.HTH :)

You can manually add in an image link to the avatar of course. That’s a feature built into themes normally and none of the ones here currently have them.
