Attempt to Hack My Password?
-
Just received 2 emails from wordpress.com saying that there were attempts to reset my password. The below email was received. Is this bogus or was someone attempting to change my password? Checking my full header info and don’t see anything suspicious.
Subject: [WordPress.com Blog] Password Reset
Someone has asked to reset the password for the following site and username.
http://wordpress.com
Username: XXXXXXX(omitted my username)
To reset your password visit the following address, otherwise just ignore this email and nothing will happen.
http://wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=XXXXX (omitted key) -
It might have merely been a mistake – someone with a similar username or email address to yours was trying to recover their password but typed in your username instead.
It might be a bit annoying but there’s no harm done.

No, I don’t believe there is any kind of a “mistake” here. Either this is a phishing scheme that I can’t detect, or some one is definately attempting to break into my account. Since this isn’t happening to anyone else, I am guessing that this is a deliberate attempt.
I’ve now had THREE separate emails, with my latest email being at 4:33pm EST.
Maybe I should contact someone in “administration” here at WordPress.

I get them.
Someone goes to the lost password link and chooses to enter their name and for some reason puts mine in by mistake. They cannot change my email address and that is the only place that email goes to.I also get emails in Support where this happens. With over 2 million registrations and many lost passwords a day it is perfectly possible.
But I have had many and it really isn’t something to worry about.
