Attempted Login

I have received multiple emails saying there have been failed log in attempts to my website. None of these attempts were me, so I am wondering if my website is going to be hacked by an outside source and what I can do to better protect it.

    WP.com: Unknown
    Jetpack: Unknown
    Correct account: Unknown

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

To begin with, you will need to change your password.

For an additional layer of protection, I would recommend enabling two-factor authentication.

    Hope this helps! :)

  • Hi there,

What is the URL of the site you got this for?

On WordPress.com, login happens at the account level, not the site level, and we don’t send our emails for failed login attempts on WordPress.com. I also don’t see any evidence of unauthorised access for the WordPress.com account you used to post here.

So it sounds like you might be speaking of a self-hosted WordPress site instead.

The open source WordPress software also doesn’t have failed login notifications as a built-in feature, so if you’re getting emails like that it’s either coming via a security plugin, or a security feature run by your hosting provider. In that case, contacting your hosting provider, or support for whatever security plugin you’re using is your best option here.
