Attention Support Forum Volunteers
-
Today I learned in justjennifer’s blog that we have lost our Forum Moderator, Tess
Tess Warn was an outstanding example of a patient and skilled WordPress.com Volunteer who went out of her way to help others here for many years.
Tess will be missed by many like me, who never met her face-to-face but were blessed when she calmly illustrated how to herd cats , as well as, educating us all in the technical aspects of using WordPress.com software.
She touched many hearts with her loving kindness. Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers at this time.

Thanks for posting this, timethief. It’s not just the volunteers that will miss her. She was so gracious and over the years of seeing her replies and comments I felt like I knew her. I am sad and shocked.

You’re welcome. I feel the same way. Tess was so resourceful and especially in difficult threads and I also feel like I knew her personally.

I’m so sad about this. Volunteers may come and go but death is different. We lost ellaella and didn’t know for ages later what happened to her and now we have lost Tess too. I wrongly thought that she merely had the flu.

Tess was a nice person & will be missed – – and in today’s communication at the speed of light – the folks we interact with can be farther away where the family does not know the details of the far flung network someone might have so notification of what happens to a person can be a bit delayed

I was thinking about that, too. (Panos?–Tess commented on his blog regularly, I hope he has heard…)
-
That is sad. Tess was always so supportive and patient. My condolences to her friends and family.

Many of us here at WordPress.com, and particularly those of us who have spent time working in the support forums, greatly admired Tess. We appreciated her kind and supportive nature. It is a sad loss for the world.
A lovely post about Tess’s contribution to the WordPress community can be found here:

I think the reason I’m so affected by this is because life can be short and we can pass away suddenly without notice. I was gone last August just before my 65th birthday and revived by paramedics. So when I think back on how patient and kind Tess was, I regret not getting to know her better in our email conversations, and not being more gracious myself when providing support. Tess’s example will be my inspiration to take the high road here when I experience difficulty helping others in forum threads.

I think one of the most appropriate ways to continue Tess’ legacy is to take up one of the last support threads she assisted in, which is still open. https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-do-i-add-a-string-to-an-url?replies=14#post-2271483
As I said in my “in memoriam” post to Tess, may her memory be a blessing.
