Mass Following, Is It Against WP Policy

  • Unknown's avatar

In recent months, a blog/blogger I used to follow is no longer on WordPress for violating WP policy (Mass Following.)

Isn’t considered rude, in the blogging world, if you don’t follow back? If I have a lot of followers how do I not snub my readers/followers. Is there any documentation on this that I can read up on, so I don’t get banned from WP?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I know from personal experience that generally if you follow someone; there is no guarantee that they will follow back. Especially if they are a big blog with tens, maybe hundreds, of followers. It can be hard to keep track of that many people! I myself only follow people if their content is interesting and relevant to what I am doing at the time on wordpress.

I can’t find much on the internet about ‘mass following’, but I assume that if you follow hundreds of people within a short period of time, wordpress would think that you are a spammer.

Mass Following, Is It Against WP Policy

Yes and it can result in having your social sharing features disabled by Staff so do not get into it.

Our reality is that there are like button spammers and follow spammers. They are gaming the system and assuming the rest of us are stupid enough to follow them back. I do not follow anyone’s blog back just because they followed my blog. And I don’t care what rude manipulative spam followers think, nor should you.

Agreed. Exactly how many like or follow clicks entered during how long of a timeframe will trigger the software to block that behavior will not be shared by Staff here or anywhere else for obvious reasons as mass following and mass liking is a spammer behavior.

    You’re welcome.

Please remove my username from the thread title above.

Lastly, please consider closing this thread. This subject of spam followers, spam likers, ie. system gamers and other lowlife with spammer behaviors, may trigger it and its minions to crawl out from under their slimy rocks and crank it up here yet again, by misleading new bloggers like the OP.

The follow feature was intended to help you read blogs that you enjoy, not as a means of promotion. Our automated systems may interfere with behavior that looks more like a spam bot than a human.
