Attractive index page with pictures?

    Hi all,
I’m a free user of wordpress.com – great service BTW.

I frequently have long lists of technologies, organisations, or just plain other pages of mine that probably need some jazzing up rather than just being a boring wall of hyperlinked text. I’m thinking images down the left with text on the right? What – 1/3 image and 2/3rds for introducing the subject? Half and half?

It’s been a while since I’ve tinkered with my summary pages – (I mainly add posts) – and I noticed there are templates now. Do these change with the theme or are they universal on a free wordpress.com account?

Or should I create it from scratch with basic image and text blocks and create a group block template I can copy and paste? How would I whip up something that I could adjust – create like a huge 30 image block and and just cut it to size for my page? How would I add more back in exactly that template if I needed to add just a few more links (and relating images?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Hi! Have you thought about using patterns? We’ve got quite a few built in:
    https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/block-pattern/

And there are even more over here:
    https://wordpress.org/patterns/

They’re great for inspiration. Copy, paste, modify to your liking — then you can copy and paste your own versions as you’d like, too.

On the other hand, sometimes an index of links isn’t so bad, especially if you can organize them with headings.

    Let us know your thoughts!
