audio and video – space upgrade?

    Hello, I’m trying to upload audio and video into the media library but it’s asking for me to upgrade space. Isn’t some included int the original template?

    Hi Katie,

    Every free account includes 3 gigabytes of media library space, but does not allow audio or video files.

    Adding audio or video files is part of the features in the Premium plan:

    WordPress.com Premium [Redirects to Plans]

    Hi Alex, thanks for getting back to me.

    I’m a bit gutted as I thought this was a premium theme – that’s why I paid for it as opposed to getting a free one. It said:

    Is there anyway around this?

    I also wonder if you could point me in the direction of a video which helps set up pages? I’m trying to set up the home page and pages with photos – like the record archive but it doesn’t show like the great demo you kindly linked to!

    Hi Katie,

    Promenade is a Premium theme, but really all that means is it has more features than a Free theme and requires a one-time payment.

    Subscribing your blog to the Premium plan gets you a lot of great benefits, including more storage space and audio/video uploads, but it’s not really connected at all to Premium themes. You can have one without the other.

    If Promenade is letting you down at all, I’m happy to help either get it setup how you like or we can do a refund. :)

    I shall have a look this weekend at the video. Am I able to install plug ins to help me on this version?

    I’m only a little worried it seems expensive £70 a year to host this media. I have a URL hosted with Easily at the moment. Do you have any advice on if I should stay with Easily to host this wordpress site once I transfer my URL or is that included? Don’t want to double up payment!

    Sorry if these sound silly questions!

    Just had a quick look at the support article with screenshots and a video about setting up static pages, thanks.

    Do you have one that details how to do the record archive as i want to add images of plays and detials then voiceover mps, showreeels and an image gallery.

    Am I able to install plug ins to help me on this version?

    WordPress.com has a lot of built-in features that were inspired by popular plugins, but it is not possible to install plugins on WordPress.com, for security reasons. Plugins can only be installed on self-hosted WordPress blogs. If you are wondering how WordPress.com differs from WordPress.org, this support article explains the distinction:

    WordPress.com vs. WordPress.org

    If you don’t find what you are looking for, just let me know what you’d like to achieve with a plugin, and I’ll help you find a solution.

    If you prefer to host your audio and video files elsewhere, WordPress sites can handle media embeds from a number of other sources for free:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/videos/
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/

    If you currently have a domain and hosting account, you could also choose to install the WordPress.org software instead. You would then just need the storage capacity to host your media files with your hosting provider.

    If you wish to point a custom domain name to a WordPress.com site, you’ll need the Domain Mapping upgrade, or the Premium plan which includes a domain mapping or registration for free.

    I’m not sure I fully grasp what you’d like to implement. Are looking to have widget similar to the Soundcloud player, which includes an album cover, play counts, etc?
