audio does not match up with proper playlist when exporting, it used to

The audio player on my page play the proper playlist but no longer sends the proper playlist to feedburner or iTunes. Playlist 12 plays in iTunes 10, for example. it used to be fine.

    Hi there!

I took a look at your site and it seems that your two most recent show posts don’t have a link to the show mp3 file.

On your Show #12, here’s the link to the mp3 file (indicated by the red arrow):
    https://www.evernote.com/shard/s290/sh/052a57ed-2fca-4f63-a670-bc61f0b6dcb6/ad576806d2971d11c0713a08f45d3baa

In Shows #13 and #14, only the flash player is shown. iTunes will not recognize any media that’s embedded in a flash player, so it will skip any posts where it doesn’t detect a mp3 file.

To fix this, you would need to go in and add the link to the mp3 file for iTunes to recognize you have a new episode. It might take a day for iTunes to notice the posts have been updated – but that will fix the problem.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you very much! Sadly, I don’t know how to do this:
“To fix this, you would need to go in and add the link to the mp3 file for iTunes to recognize you have a new episode.”

It all worked, of course until I started trying to link a Podcast differently. It was fine till I messed with it.
    Thanks,
    Craig

I can bring this up, in post edit, but don’t know how to have it show up in the page with the link. Same with Show 12, how do I fix that. I’ve spent hours trying to get it, but think I screwed it up more, so I’m just going a step at a time. Obviously brand new to this, Thanks for the help.

Have you tried going back to how you used to do it? Also, whatever you did with Episode #14 to re-add the mp3 file, it worked:

Same with Show 12, how do I fix that.

Show #12 was fine – it was Shows #13 and #14 that weren’t working. You seem to be getting a handle on adding the link – you just need to copy and paste the audio file URL into your show post.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks again, I think we almost got it. I’m trying to get back to where I was, and am there except I have 2 questions now.

When I originally posted the shows I got the audio player on the page and another link, right below below that, that could right click to iTunes (see show 10).
I don’t really know how I did that but I would like to get that link back.

Where I got in trouble was trying different ways to link each show to a dedicated podcast link. is there an easy way to do that? or should I go back to linking to my podcast page address, though I’m afraid now i’ll screw it up again…what’s the best way. i read earlier in wordpress help about dedicated links but afraid i bungled it. Any helpful hints? I’m now going to redo those other shows to add the link. Thanks

Should I add a podcast category to each show?

  • Unknown's avatar

When I go into Edit Post on show 10, I don’t even see the long mp3 address, and don’t know why it seemed like I had more flexibility.

  • Unknown's avatar

When you say “dedicated podcast link” – what exactly do you mean?

To post your shows, all you need to do is copy and paste (or use “add media”) the URL of your mp3 file into the post. That’s what iTunes is looking for when it adds new episodes.

For a podcast category – that’s really up to you. It’s not necessary.

Sorry, what I want is a link on the page to a) iTunes podcast page , or, preferably, a link on the show page that plays the podcast and makes it available for download.

  • Unknown's avatar

in show 10, a page viewer can “right Click” on the designated link to play in iTunes also….how the heck did I do that? Sorry to take all your time, you’ve been great and I think we’re bout done.

First, you only needed to have edited Show #13 and Show #14 as the rest of your episodes were already in iTunes.

Secondly, by adding the MP3 file to your post, you automatically get a player that will play the file. You can then direct people to your iTunes page to download the latest episode – or if they subscribe to your podcast, iTunes will automatically download the newest show as soon as you post it.

Finally, the link to your iTunes podcast page is:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/blues-belles-blues-belles/id621051877?mt=2

You can add that link to any text on your show posts by creating a new link:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/

All of your published episodes are now showing in iTunes, so it looks like you’re all set!

This is my last attempt. I realize you would not be familiar with the show content, so I’ll put it differently, ask one more question, and then give you a great review and go back to my frustration. You can see the mp3 files in each playlist, but what you must not be able to se is this:
Even tho the mp3 links are right, in edit post, on the iTunes podcast page Shows 10 and 11 BOTH play show 10! Plus, Show 12 on the podcast page plays Show 11mp3 and the real Show 12 plays nowhere at all. So yes, everything plays something….just not always the right thing. If you can think of anything else that would help, PLEASE let me know. In the past weeks, TRASHED and rebuilt Show posts, in attempts to start over, and I always give ITunes 24 hrs to catch up. The exception to that is today (about 20 Hours).

Last question, I know how to do the link to the podcast page in the post, but just the raw link shows up in the show page, the description I put in…”Click here for iTunes podcast”
I have a new show today at 2:00 so I have to put the new show up now, wish me luck.

Last Last question, I have the link to iTunes Podcasts working on the page, but it automatically put a 2nd ” play” arrow on the page. I instructed viewers to click on the “bottom arrow”, but Idon’t like it. Isn’t there a way to just use the link and get that second arrow out of there?
    Thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

Don’t worry bout the podcast arrow, you gave me a different link to iTunes than iTunes did…..If i use their link ( delete your ?mt=2, at the end) it works just how i wanted. Podcasts are still screwed up tho. :( #s 11, 12 play wrong ones, and the real 12 doesn’t play anywhere.

You seem to have used the show 11 mp3 file in your show 12 post, and show 10’s file in show 11.

Looking at your media library, can you verify that you’ve named the show files to link to the show post? Meaning is “Blues Belles Show 12” for your Show 12 post?

I’ll be able to help straighten this out for you if you can verify the file names for me.

    Thank you!

    Hello!
Doing well on iTunes podcasts, post links etc. Just one weird thing that I can’t seem to take care of. I now keep getting2 play arrows on posts on page…..same content. I look in “text and only see 1 mp3 file. How can I just have 1 audio player per post on page.
    Thanks again.

I checked and it seems you’re making Audio posts rather than Standard posts. Since you’re using your site for a podcast feed, you need to make your posts as Standard since we need an link to your mp3 file in the source code. The Audio format post is designed to just add a player for your audio file and not have the mp3 link – but since that is not compatible with iTunes, we need to use a Standard post format to avoid the double player issue.

To change the format, go in and edit each post and click the “change format” link if the menu isn’t displayed, and select Standard from the list as shown:
    http://d.pr/i/9pGw

Update your post and the duplicate player should go away.

    I hope that helps!
