Audio Embedding Doesn't Work–Why?
-
This is a follow-up to my question HERE, which was never answered.
I tried embedding an audio link from Flickr, and that didn’t work. So I changed it to a straight public link to my Copy.com account. (Copy.com is like DropBox, but more free space.) Readers can play the clip there.
But it would be so much cooler if readers could play an embedded clip!
Following the instructions in WordPress Help, using [audio ___________URL_______] with Copy.com didn’t work.
What am I doing wrong?

Copy.com isn’t supported by WordPress.com yet.
Could you check the other embed options suggested in Audio support guide here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/audio/
@maryfeatherstone1, you too please take a look at the Audio support guide and feel free to post any specific questions you may have.

Thanks chaitanyamsv— I went and enrolled in SoundCloud, and followed the instructions on the Support page, and that worked!
Do you support Flickr? I couldn’t get that to work. How about DropBox?
Anyway, SoundCloud is a bit of a pain, but now that I have an account, I suppose I can use it, as long as it lasts.

Hi there,
When you’re embedding audio using the audio shortcode, the link in that shortcode has to be directly to an audio file, like this:
[audio http://en-support.files.wordpress.com/2014/10/istock_audio.wav]That link directly opens the audio file (rather than a page where the audio file can be viewed or played), so it will work in that audio shortcode.
If you’re having trouble with that, can you please share a link to the audio file you’re trying to embed? I can take a closer look at that for you. :)

That link directly opens the audio file (rather than a page where the audio file can be viewed or played), so it will work in that audio shortcode. . .
Ah, that’s the problem with the Copy.com link (and probably the Flickr one, too): it links to a location on a page, and not to the audio file itself.
DropBox would work the same way, I think.
So are there any sites where one can store audio files and link to the file itself? I wanted to just add the audio clip to my WordPress Media Library, but audio formats (mp3, wav, m4a, etc.) are not listed as acceptable on the “Drop anywhere” page.
So for us non-premium users, I guess it’s SoundCloud or nothing if we want to embed an audio clip. Right?
